The Centre for Folk Art Production
- Košice, Slovakia
- Banská Bystrica, Slovakia
The Centre for Folk Art Production (ÚĽUV) has a mission to safeguard and develop traditional crafts and home-made production in Slovakia. Both in the past and today, it focuses mainly on looking for, mapping out and protecting crafts that are dying out; it then develops them by means of various activities, connecting the information and skills of the best producers with the knowledge of ethnologists and the vision of designers. The result is an original artist’s work which respects traditional craft processes, patterns and materials.

Expected and aspired co-creation
We would like to co-create a final craft piece that reflects the meeting point between the Craft Practitioner’s artistic vision and traditional expertise. The result should embody a fusion of contemporary approaches and authentic craft techniques, showcasing the value of collaboration across borders.
The creative process we would like to follow is an open, dialogue-based exchange, where both partners share their methods, experiment together, and gradually shape the final piece through joint exploration. We imagine an iterative process that allows for mutual inspiration, testing of ideas, and the integration of diverse cultural perspectives.
The expertise we will provide includes our experience in cultural production, project development, and connecting artistic disciplines across international contexts. We bring a strong focus on creative facilitation, conceptual thinking, and building meaningful bridges between traditional craft and contemporary practice.
Overall, our main goal is to become part of a European network of organisations, to strengthen international cooperation, to connect with craft practitioners from other European countries, and to exchange know-how and search for new creative links.
