themes involved in our work
- Circularity (e.g. reusing materials);
- Inclusion (of people with fewer opportunities).
Expected and aspired co-creation
For this co-creation, I propose building a wood-burning ceramic kiln in collaboration with a Craft Practitioner. The final Craft Piece will be both the kiln itself—constructed using locally sourced clay, bricks, and other appropriate refractory materials—and a small body of ceramic test pieces. These works will be shaped during the residency using local clay but will be fired at a later stage once the kiln is completed and properly dried. This project emphasizes sustainable, site-responsive making and aims to leave behind a functional and inspiring structure that can be used by others in the future.
The creative process will be highly collaborative and experimental. Together, we will explore traditional and contemporary approaches to kiln building, research local materials, and adapt construction techniques to suit the specific context of the site. Throughout the 10-day period, we will also work on small-scale ceramic forms, experimenting with the local clay’s properties and documenting our progress. The process will balance hands-on building, clay work, knowledge sharing, and problem-solving.
As a ceramic artist, I bring experience in working with clay, forming techniques, and process-based making. I am particularly interested in material exploration and the relationship between form, fire, and place. I also have experience facilitating collaborative, craft-focused projects.
Ideally, the Craft Practitioner will also come from a ceramics background, with knowledge of kiln design, wood firing, or clay work. However, I’m equally open to working with a practitioner from another craft discipline who brings complementary skills—such as sustainable building, fire-based practices, or material experimentation. What matters most is a shared curiosity and commitment to making something meaningful together.
equipment and machinery available
The working area provided is approximately 18 square meters and is equipped with a ceramic and glass fusing kiln. Each craft practitioner will have access to an individual working table and running water. Additionally, there is access to a fully equipped wood workshop. The surrounding garden and natural environment may also be used as an extension of the working space. Practitioners are encouraged to engage with this space respectfully, with care and attention to environmental sustainability.
Preferred periods in the year 2025
September and October are available months. During the summer time Small House has summer holiday.
working hours and week days
The Craft Practitioner will have access to a private workspace and shared studio facilities from 08:00 to 16:00. Access outside these hours can be arranged in agreement with the host.
