Il Fondo

“Il Fondo” is a cultural center created in march 2025. It’s a space for art, hosting exhibitions, workshops, and creative collaborations, with a particular focus on printmaking and engraving. It aims to be a meeting place for individuals who want and need to express themselves through printing and graphic arts. For this reason, “Il Fondo” promotes and supports exhibitions for artists and hosts workshops open to the public without restrictions on age, gender, race, or religious beliefs, following an inclusive approach.

“Il Fondo” aspires to be a space where social and grassroots artistic events can take place, a common area where people interested in art and culture can share ideas and grow together, where different disciplines connected to the arts meet and “cross-pollinate,” and where people can share projects and dreams.

Expected and aspired co-creation

As a host organization, Il Fondo invites the guest artist to experiment with less-toxic and sustainable printmaking techniques and or with relief printing. The studio prioritizes environmentally friendly approaches, offering opportunities to work with copper sulfate using a less-toxic varnish, less-toxic inks, and experimental methods such as lithographic crayons, open bite, sustainable aquatint, and sugar lift.
I will provide guidance as the director of Il Fondo and as a professional printmaker, supporting the guest with studio equipment, workspace, and local contacts. I can also advise on bookbinding if the guest wishes to compile their works into a bound edition.
This residency aims to foster mutual exchange of knowledge in printmaking (with a prioritization of sustainable printmaking), illustration, and editing. The guest is expected to produce an edition of their works, leaving one copy for the studio archive. We may organize a small public event to showcase the works and techniques used, further expanding the network and creating opportunities for future collaborations.
Il Fondo welcomes artists from around the world and encourages sharing contacts and expertise to promote less-toxic printmaking and the studio’s activities beyond regional and national borders.
