Raquel Silva

Hi! I’m an illustrator and ceramics artist from Portugal. I strive to create pieces that are uplifting and colorful, taking inspiration from traditional Portuguese ceramics. I’ve been dedicating my time to ceramics full-time working freelance for local studios/factories where I help with production, management and workshops. What excites me most is meeting new people, facing technical challenges and finding solutions to push ideas forward.

I got into ceramics during my Master’s degree, first researching it as a venue for illustration. Portuguese ceramics are very rich with character and narrative which pulled me in to start making my own pieces. In the past four years I’ve gained experiences in different contexts, from my hometown studio to traditional and more modern factories. I specialize in hand building with slabs or coils using stoneware clay. In the past year I’ve been able to create bigger pieces for a client and I’m learning a lot thanks to this experience.
