Julia Baranovskaja
Julia Baranovskaja is a visual artist, printmaker, and illustrator from Russia, now living and creating in Serbia. She graduated from Nizhny Novgorod University as an expert in history, then studied art and design at Kosygin University in Moscow. Today, she shares her skills, knowledge of art history, and inspiration with adults and children alike through workshops at the Atelier of Old Art Crafts in Sombor.
She believes that being involved in the process of handmade printing is a sure way to fully immerse oneself in the creative flow, to forget about daily worries, and to feel the unique tactile properties of paper or fabric. “It’s my way of bringing people together, helping them through art to feel mental support and harmony, and in doing so, mending the world,” she says.
A significant part of her artistic practice is dedicated to graphics, working with various mediums such as watercolor, dry and oil pastel, ink, pencils, and prints. The process of handmade printmaking allows her to constantly explore and discover new ways for self-expression. With that she enters a creative dialogue with the materials themselves — be they metal, plastic, cardboard, or linoleum. Her distinct graphic style is defined by its expressive, recognizable lines, vibrant, sunny colors, fantasy and dynamics.
Her works are held in private collections in the United Kingdom, USA, France, Germany, Hungary, Serbia, and other countries. She is a constant participant in international art exhibitions and symposiums, as she believes that collaborative creative work generates a powerful energy and fosters mutual understanding, uniting people in a way nothing else can.
