I am a French-Algerian artist and textile designer, born in 1994 in Paris and currently living in France. In 2021 I graduated from the Ecole Supérieure d’Art et de Design in Angers.
Since then, I have placed a special emphasis and focused on textiles methodologies and various techniques such as weaving, braiding, tapestry and embroidery. The starting point for my work is experimentation, and my method is both visual and three-dimensional. I use systems of assembly and interlacing to explore the architectural dimension of textiles.
My approach aims to question and interrogate the role and significance of making, gesture, and material in our existence and our connection to the world. These techniques nourish my work as much as they enable me to consider their endurance, their ability to preserve memory, and the connections they represent between individuals, time and space.
Artworks
Hommage au carré, Homage to the Square is the result of a residency at the Musée d'art et d'histoire in Cholet's geometric abstraction gallery, and is inspired by the artist Joseph Albers's paintings series. According to him “Colour behaves like humans in two distinct ways: first in self-realisation, and then in the realisation of relationships with others” This piece consists of an 80 x 80 cm wooden panel with superimposed stretched cotton threads. Colours do not merely cover; they are matter, form and light. This sensory experience challenges our perception and engages our gaze.
Fréquence 4, created in 2023, is an 80 x 80cm panel. It is an extension of my artistic exploration of braiding, which I began during my residency at a manufacturing company. The threads and braids create surfaces and planes, connecting and arranging themselves according to a system of combinations and repetitions that reveals the rhythm and dynamics to which we are intrinsically linked. Coloured lines spread, and the motif unfolds through stratification and juxtaposition. It invites the eye to wander and follow the lines from one element to the next, moving around the network as it does so.
Triptyque, is an in situ installation located in the inner courtyard of Victor Hugo's Parisian residence. The piece reflects the architectural philosophy of Gottfried Semper. According to Semper, architecture evolved from the textile arts, such as braiding fibers and weaving. Consisting of braids inserted into a wooden framework, the construction of the piece is reminiscent of the design of the Place des Vosges, establishing a dialogue with the building and creating optical effects and perspective.
Mire, is an in situ project located in an opening that offers an ideal view of the gallery. It is dedicated to geometric abstraction at the Museum of Art and History in Cholet. This installation is part of the architecture itself, creating a space within a space, like a mise en abîme. Based on the principle of a grid, vertical and horizontal lines intersect to fragment the space. Like a window frame, it provides a fresh perspective on the gallery space and the other artworks on display.
