Alrik Suvari
I am, at heart, a woodworker. I love the use of one of nature’s best materials to make furniture and objects that bring functional use and pleasure from their design into our daily lives. Though I am primarily focused on traditional methods, I try to bring a sense of modern adaptation to my work and to enjoy the process of integrating multiple techniques into unique pieces.
I am an Estonian craft maker living in Brussels. I’ve been working in wood for about seven years. I’m particularly interested in traditional woodworking and furniture craft using solid wood materials. I’m enamored of inlay and different finishing techniques with a lot of attention focused on both historical detail and its gentle modernization.

Table
This is a very traditional half round table that opens into a full round if needed. It’s made of cherry wood with beech, apple, and walnut inlays and banding. The leaf motif at the capitals of the legs reflect the owner’s Canadian heritage and are designed to recall the changing of the seasons and especially the approach of the autumn (a favorite period) each year.
Toolbox
A recently completed toolbox for myself. It’s done in European walnut and helps keep me organized on a daily basis.
Console
A console side table in recovered Honduran mahogany.
