Hi! My name is Cas Round. As a designer, I often explore the boundaries between human and non-human, nurture and nature, organic and geometric. I love experimenting, which most of the time drives my research process to places I have never been before. This gives me ideal opportunities to learn from not others, but also from myself.
My preferred materials are concrete, wood and metal, but my practice does not necessarily constrict itself to only these. I am incredibly curious and inquisitive about everything, especially about new materials, methods and developments within the world of design.
Artworks

CS is a concrete stool series designed as a seating object not only for humans, but also for nature. It combines geopolymer concrete with leftover willow tree trunks, while hidden animal habitats hide within its body. These will become accessible when the wood naturally degrades over time.

“cracked" is both a functional lampshade and an individual piece of art, that reflects every person who breaks theirs in their own unique way. The customer decides the light's placement by breaking and reassembling the lampshade, making each piece truly unique. This project embraces the concept of co-design, inviting customers to be co-creators and essentially become co-designers of their unique art piece.

"UPDATE" is a collaboration project between me and Sverre Eersels, a fellow student from my class. We created this machine using a Raspberry Pi and an Arduino Uno to always keep you up to date with the latest news items and entertainment. This compact 'newspaper' took the shape of a ticket, on which you could read news, solve puzzles, and get a weather forecast. This became possible through the use of APIs in the code, which we wrote in Python.
