Clare Jordan

I’m an artist/designer working mainly with collage, drawing, and textile printing. I live on a family farm that was passed on from previous generations. I find that I am often inspired by the land, memory, and everyday materials. I’m really interested in how images and surfaces can hold traces of time, and I love working with found textures, hand-made marks, and natural elements. I also love photos, objects and vintage clothing that holds moments. My practice is very process-driven — I like to test ideas, layer things up, pull them apart again, and see what emerges. Right now I’m exploring how the changes in the landscape around my family’s farm can feed into imagry that is inspiring.

I work with a mix of craft techniques, mainly drawing, textile printing, collage, and surface design. My craft journey began after graduating in 1996, and I’ve been developing a creative practice ever since that is rooted in mark-making, colour, and composition. I’ve studied textile design, and I’m especially drawn to the tactile, layered quality of print and fabric. Collage is central to how I think and make — I love how it allows for chance, contrast, and quiet storytelling. Text often finds its way into my work too, sometimes as fragments, sometimes just as message.
