SUMMARY:Sustainable Creativity: Balancing passion and planet
DESCRIPTION:We are undoubtedly facing a growing climate and biodiversity crisis. Art and creativity are more important than ever to raise awareness\, empower citizens and drive lasting change. We will be discussing the crucial role of creativity as a method for enabling true sustainability on a societal scale. Art practices are undoubtedly varied\, yet we are at a time now where they must be united with a common thread – sustainability. The session will entail a history of art as climate action\, how to make art practices more sustainable and how every artist has a role to play. This empowering and engaging workshop will ensure participants come away feeling inspired by having the necessary tools to make not only their own practice more sustainable\, but also the world around them. From using found materials to reducing pollution to enhancing the natural environment\, the practical workshop will allow everyone to embed sustainability into their creative enterprises. \nThis talk is part funded by Craft Work 4.0 supported by Creative Europe. \nCraftwork 4.0 All is defined as a platform of international and intercultural co-creation\, created among 12 organizations from 12 countries\, and aiming at supporting emerging craft artists and practitioners to co-create\, cooperate and promote their work\, developing a common European programming of non-national craft artists and of trainings. \nYosef Dvores \nAs a sustainability trainer and artist\, I have been bridging the gap between creativity and sustainability since the beginning. Sourcing sustainable materials for art practices has been the primary focus of making collages. As the Head of Sustainability and lead trainer at Veri Connect\, I design and deliver courses around best practices for reducing environmental harm and provide cohorts with resources and certification for sustainable practices.

SUMMARY:Craft Coffee Talk: NéoPaléo
DESCRIPTION:An online visit of the exhibition NéoPaléo\, curated by Studio BehaghelFoiny. This exhibition seeks to write a history of design between past\, present\, and future\, bringing together the creations of around fifteen designers. \nThe history of technology has been built on a gradual evolution from manual labor to the use of increasingly sophisticated tools and machines. Going against this trend\, the NéoPaléo exhibition presents a landscape of contemporary design practices that engage directly with materials and fully reintegrate the spontaneity of the hand into the way they are shaped\, while remaining in tune with today’s material and technological environment. The NeoPaleo time capsule thus brings together heterogeneous approaches\, where gestures mobilize both ancestral know-how and digital processes\, manufactured elements and elements derived from living organisms.

SUMMARY:Craft Lab: Empowering Irish Creatives to Showcase Their Work Nationally and Internationally
DESCRIPTION:Crafting Opportunity: Supporting Irish Creatives to Showcase with Confidence\nIreland’s craft and design sector has long been a source of cultural pride\, artistic innovation\, and economic opportunity. From traditional weaving and fine ceramics to contemporary jewellery and sustainable fashion\, Irish makers blend heritage with modern creativity in ways that captivate audiences both at home and abroad. But while talent and vision are in no short supply\, the journey from studio to marketplace—especially the global stage—can be a daunting one. \nTo address this\, the Local Enterprise Office Carlow\, in partnership with the Entrepreneurs Academy\, are launching a new initiative: Craft Lab – Developing Your Craft & Creative Business: Showcasing at Consumer & Trade Fairs in Ireland & Internationally. Running weekly from Tuesday 20th May across four expert-led sessions\, this online programme is tailored specifically for makers\, designers\, and creative entrepreneurs across Ireland who are ready to elevate their business through professional showcasing. \nThis initiative is part of Craft Work 4.0\, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union\, and reflects a growing recognition of the need to support creatives not just in their craft—but in their capacity to connect with markets\, build resilient business models\, and scale sustainably. \n“European programmes like Creative Europe are vital to Ireland’s creative sector\,” says Cllr. Fergal Browne\, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council. “They open up new pathways for collaboration\, innovation and market access—ensuring our local talent has a global platform. EU-funded projects like Craft Work 4.0 help us future-proof our creative economy.” \nFrom Studio to Showroom \nFor many Irish creatives\, showcasing their work at consumer and trade fairs—whether in Dublin or Düsseldorf—represents a major milestone. These events offer visibility\, sales opportunities\, and invaluable industry connections. But they also require preparation\, strategic planning\, and an understanding of how to present a brand professionally to diverse audiences. \nDeveloping Your Craft & Creative Business: Showcasing at Consumer & Trade Fairs in Ireland & Internationally   –  Craft Lab is designed to bridge that gap. Through four focused sessions\, participants will gain the tools\, confidence\, and knowledge to identify the right fairs for their goals\, create compelling displays\, pitch to buyers\, and develop a post-fair growth strategy. The programme is rich in real-world insights\, featuring guest contributions from successful craft entrepreneurs\, fair organisers\, and wholesale buyers—many with deep ties to the Irish craft scene. \nThe Structure of Success\nEach session is crafted (no pun intended) to address a key stage in the showcasing journey. \n\nSession One\, led by Liz Maguire\, lays the groundwork. Participants will explore the difference between B2B and B2C fairs\, learn to price their products for retail and wholesale\, and begin curating a shortlist of events suited to their brand and ambition.\nSession Two\, with Helen McNulty\, dives into the visual and logistical aspects—how to design a stand that attracts attention\, how to prepare marketing materials\, and how to navigate international logistics like customs and shipping.\nIn Session Three\, Caolan Cullen explores what it means to “sell” at a fair—not just in transactions\, but in conversations. From negotiating with trade buyers to taking orders and following up\, this session helps participants turn opportunities into outcomes.\nFinally\, Session Four focuses on scaling. Led again by Helen McNulty\, it examines post-fair strategy: accessing grants\, tapping into new sales channels such as Faire and Ankorstore\, and exploring longer-term partnerships like licensing or agent representation.\n\nStrengthening the Irish Craft Economy\nThe Irish creative sector is both an economic driver and a cultural ambassador. With events like Showcase Ireland offering a platform for hundreds of makers each year\, and with Irish craftspeople gaining traction in international markets\, now is a critical time to invest in the skills that underpin business growth. \n“Craft is more than a product—it’s a story\, a livelihood\, and a community\,” says Kieran Comerford\, Head of Economic Development and Enterprise at Carlow County Council. “By supporting our creative businesses to showcase professionally\, we’re building resilience in rural enterprise and nurturing a sector that reflects the very best of Irish innovation and identity.” \nDeveloping Your Craft & Creative Business: Showcasing at Consumer & Trade Fairs in Ireland & Internationally  – Craft Lab is not just about helping individuals succeed at fairs—it’s about nurturing a stronger\, more connected\, and more confident craft sector in Ireland. It reflects the ethos that Irish creativity deserves not only to be seen\, but to be sold\, shared\, and celebrated worldwide. \nThis programme is free to attend and open to creatives across all disciplines—from textiles and ceramics to woodwork\, print\, leather\, and more. Whether you’re preparing for your first fair or looking to grow your presence internationally\, Craft Lab offers an essential toolkit for moving forward with clarity and confidence. \nIn today’s fast-changing world\, Irish craft stands out not just for its beauty\, but for its authenticity. It tells a story of place\, people\, and process—and when supported strategically\, it has the power to thrive in even the most competitive global arenas. \nDeveloping Your Craft & Creative Business: Showcasing at Consumer & Trade Fairs in Ireland & Internationally   – Craft Lab is more than a training programme. It’s a statement of belief in the potential of Ireland’s creative sector—and an invitation to take the next step. \nTo Book Your Place go to Showcasing at Consumer & Trade Fairs in Ireland & Internationally – Local Enterprise Office – Carlow or call Melissa Doyle on 059/9129783 e-mail: enterprise@carlowcoco.ie

SUMMARY:Coffee Talk with Cas Holman: Radical Play
DESCRIPTION:Due to high demand\, we will have a livestream of the talk on location at Multipurpose room 2 on the 2nd Floor of Center Rog. For easier organization\, applications are required for the livestream as well. This coffee talk is organised in the scope of our Crafwork4.0All project\, supported by the Creative Europe programme. \nOver the last century\, play has continuously been relegated to the realms of children or the frivolous. Why for so long have social norms taught us to strive to be rational\, civilized\, and to control ourselves? What is it about play that is disconcerting? \nOn Tuesday\, April 22\, at 6:00 PM\, we invite you to a lecture by renowned American designer Cas Holman\, an expert in toy design and tools for intergenerational play. In the talk Cas Holman will use examples from her work to illustrate play as an act of rebellion—a joyous method for learning\, expressing oneself\, forming empathetic connections\, pushing boundaries\, and reshaping our world. \nThe lecture serves as a public introduction to the two-day masterclass\, taking place at Center Rog on April 23 and 24. \nAbout the speaker\nCas Holman is the founder and chief designer of the toy company Heroes Will Rise and a former Professor of Industrial Design at Rhode Island School of Design. Cas travels the globe speaking about early education\, the design process\, and the value of play in all aspects of life. She has shared her perspective in workshops and seminars with teams at Google\, Nike\, LEGO Foundation\, Disney Imagineering\, and more. \nSome of her designs include toys like Rigamajig and structures at the Highline in New York and the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City\, New Jersey. She lives in New York City and designs from her studio in Brooklyn. Her philosophy and approach to designing for play was recently featured in the award-winning documentary series Abstract: The Art of Design on Netflix. Cas’s book Playful: How Play Shifts Our Thinking\, Inspires Connection\, and Sparks Creativity will be released in October 2025\, published by Avery\, an imprint of Penguin Random House. \nMore info and registration here »
