DESCRIPTION:Presented by ESPRONCEDA – Institute of Art & Culture \nHow can traditional craftsmanship embrace new technologies while becoming more sustainable? How can waste materials become resources for new creative processes? \nOn 29 July 2026\, ESPRONCEDA – Institute of Art & Culture invites artisans and emerging makers to take part in Circular Craft & 3D Printing for Artisans\, a free one-day Sustainability Training Workshop exploring circularity\, material reuse and 3D printing through hands-on \nThe activity brings together experienced artisans and a younger generation of makers to explore how traditional knowledge\, sustainability and digital fabrication can complement one another. \nFrom craft knowledge to circular innovation\nRather than a theoretical class\, the workshop proposes a guided circular innovation process. \nParticipants will begin with their own craft practices\, techniques and materials\, identifying opportunities to reduce waste\, rethink resources and introduce circular strategies into their production processes. Throughout the day\, they will explore principles including responsible material sourcing\, waste reduction\, creative reuse and upcycling\, while experimenting with ESPRONCEDA’s 3D printing facilities. \nThe aim is not to replace traditional craftsmanship with technology\, but to explore how 3D printing can become another tool in service of the artisan — complementing existing material knowledge\, skills and techniques. \nWorking in pairs\, participants will develop a prototype that connects their craft practice with a concrete circular strategy. \nCraft across generations\nA central element of the workshop is intergenerational exchange. \nThe group will combine experienced artisans with more than ten years of professional practice and younger participants who are studying\, training or beginning their careers in craft. By working side by side\, participants will have the opportunity to exchange traditional knowledge and accumulated experience with emerging perspectives on technology\, materials and sustainability. It also connects with Craftwork4ALL’s mission to support innovation\, sustainability\, inclusion and new opportunities within the European craft sector. \nWhat will participants gain?\nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will have developed one prototype per pair\, based on their craft practice and incorporating a circular approach. \nThey will also gain practical innovation tools — including opportunity mapping and sustainability filters — that can continue to be applied to their own professional practice. \nSelected pieces developed during the workshop may also have the opportunity to be presented during the Local Exhibition and Craft & Sustainability Festival at ESPRONCEDA\, taking place from 2–4 December 2026\, creating continuity between experimentation\, production and public presentation. Beyond the prototypes themselves\, the workshop aims to create new connections between artisans and makers from different generations and disciplines. \nWho can participate?\nThe workshop is open to artisans from any traditional craft discipline\, with particular priority given to creating a mixed intergenerational group. \nThe 17 available places will include: \n\nAt least 6 experienced artisans\, with more than 10 years of active practice.\nAt least 6 apprentices\, students or artisans in training\, including young people beginning their professional careers or transitioning into a new craft.\nUp to 5 additional participants\, selected to encourage diversity across disciplines and profiles.\n\nNo previous experience with 3D printing or innovation methodologies is required. Curiosity\, an interest in sustainability and a willingness to experiment are the main requirements. SUMMARY:Craft Lab: Empowering Irish Creatives to Showcase Their Work Nationally and Internationally
DESCRIPTION:Crafting Opportunity: Supporting Irish Creatives to Showcase with Confidence\nIreland’s craft and design sector has long been a source of cultural pride\, artistic innovation\, and economic opportunity. From traditional weaving and fine ceramics to contemporary jewellery and sustainable fashion\, Irish makers blend heritage with modern creativity in ways that captivate audiences both at home and abroad. But while talent and vision are in no short supply\, the journey from studio to marketplace—especially the global stage—can be a daunting one. \nTo address this\, the Local Enterprise Office Carlow\, in partnership with the Entrepreneurs Academy\, are launching a new initiative: Craft Lab – Developing Your Craft & Creative Business: Showcasing at Consumer & Trade Fairs in Ireland & Internationally. Running weekly from Tuesday 20th May across four expert-led sessions\, this online programme is tailored specifically for makers\, designers\, and creative entrepreneurs across Ireland who are ready to elevate their business through professional showcasing. \nThis initiative is part of Craft Work 4.0\, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union\, and reflects a growing recognition of the need to support creatives not just in their craft—but in their capacity to connect with markets\, build resilient business models\, and scale sustainably. \n“European programmes like Creative Europe are vital to Ireland’s creative sector\,” says Cllr. Fergal Browne\, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council. “They open up new pathways for collaboration\, innovation and market access—ensuring our local talent has a global platform. EU-funded projects like Craft Work 4.0 help us future-proof our creative economy.” \nFrom Studio to Showroom \nFor many Irish creatives\, showcasing their work at consumer and trade fairs—whether in Dublin or Düsseldorf—represents a major milestone. These events offer visibility\, sales opportunities\, and invaluable industry connections. But they also require preparation\, strategic planning\, and an understanding of how to present a brand professionally to diverse audiences. \nDeveloping Your Craft & Creative Business: Showcasing at Consumer & Trade Fairs in Ireland & Internationally   –  Craft Lab is designed to bridge that gap. Through four focused sessions\, participants will gain the tools\, confidence\, and knowledge to identify the right fairs for their goals\, create compelling displays\, pitch to buyers\, and develop a post-fair growth strategy. The programme is rich in real-world insights\, featuring guest contributions from successful craft entrepreneurs\, fair organisers\, and wholesale buyers—many with deep ties to the Irish craft scene. \nThe Structure of Success\nEach session is crafted (no pun intended) to address a key stage in the showcasing journey. \n\nSession One\, led by Liz Maguire\, lays the groundwork. Participants will explore the difference between B2B and B2C fairs\, learn to price their products for retail and wholesale\, and begin curating a shortlist of events suited to their brand and ambition.\nSession Two\, with Helen McNulty\, dives into the visual and logistical aspects—how to design a stand that attracts attention\, how to prepare marketing materials\, and how to navigate international logistics like customs and shipping.\nIn Session Three\, Caolan Cullen explores what it means to “sell” at a fair—not just in transactions\, but in conversations. From negotiating with trade buyers to taking orders and following up\, this session helps participants turn opportunities into outcomes.\nFinally\, Session Four focuses on scaling. Led again by Helen McNulty\, it examines post-fair strategy: accessing grants\, tapping into new sales channels such as Faire and Ankorstore\, and exploring longer-term partnerships like licensing or agent representation.\n\nStrengthening the Irish Craft Economy\nThe Irish creative sector is both an economic driver and a cultural ambassador. SUMMARY:Upcycling textile workshops with Vasylyna Buryanyk
DESCRIPTION:This workshop gives participants the chance to explore decorating and finishing textiles\, focusing on combining fabric with upcycled materials like plastic\, cellophane\, and more. \nThroughout the session\, participants will learn an author’s approach to working with textures and forms\, inspired by professional textile artists. As a result\, they will gain creative techniques to transform everyday materials into unique\, sustainable textile pieces. \nThe workshop is designed for a small group of up to 8 participants\, allowing for individual attention and support throughout the process. It’s aimed at an adult audience\, with content suited to their skills and interests\, ensuring an engaging and rewarding experience for everyone. \nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will gain new skills in textile arts and upcycling\, and feel confident to continue exploring these techniques on their own\, contributing to a more sustainable and creative future. \nThe workshop is taking place in two sessions:\n26.2. 18:00-20:00 (in English)\n27.2. 18:00-20:00 (in Ukrainan) \nAbout the artist\nVasylyna Buryanyk\, born in 1985\, is a native of the Transcarpathian region (Ukraine). In 2004\, she graduated from College of Arts Adalbert Erdeli (Uzhhorod) with a major in graphic design\, and in 2010\, she graduated from Lviv National Academy of Arts\, Department of Art Textiles. \nWinner of the scholarship program of the Minister of Culture of Poland\, Gaude Polonia and nominee for awards such as the Second National Biennial of Young Art (2019\, Kharkiv\, Ukraine) and the First Sculpture Prize of Ukraine\, the M17 Sculpture Prize (2020\, Kyiv\, Ukraine)\, and the 17 International Triennial of Tapestry (2022\, Lodz\, Poland). Participant at the 10th Triennial of Young Art (2023\, Oronsko\, Poland). \nVasylyna’s artistic practice usually deals with environmental and social issues in Ukraine and the rest of the world. In her work\, she mostly uses transparent polyester fabrics that are made from oil\, which is the root of the above-mentioned problems…”
